President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and First Lady Intisar El-Sisi hosted a dinner on Wednesday at the Giza Pyramids in honor of Spain’s King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, as part of their first state visit to Egypt
In his remarks, President El-Sisi noted that King Felipe’s visit provides fresh momentum to the strategic partnership between Egypt and Spain. The King, in turn, expressed his pride in being in Egypt and thanked the President for the warm welcome extended to him, Queen Letizia, and their delegation since their arrival in Cairo
King Felipe praised the outcomes of his earlier talks with El-Sisi and voiced confidence in strengthening bilateral ties, highlighting the two nations’ aligned perspectives on several regional and international matters
According to the Egyptian presidency, discussions focused on expanding cooperation in areas such as the economy, investment, academia, and education. President El-Sisi also underlined the deep cultural ties between Egypt and Spain, which date back to the 1960s, and called for greater collaboration in archaeology along with joint cultural and artistic initiatives
Tourism was another key topic, with both sides emphasizing opportunities to boost travel and share expertise, while noting the distinctive attractions of each country—including the highly anticipated opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum
Following the dinner, the Spanish royals joined the President and First Lady on a tour of the Giza Pyramids and the Sphinx, where they learned about the Sphinx’s history and enduring significance
